Success Story Darren

Darren & Sharen Walker - VIC

  • Darren suffered a knee injury at work and was not able to continue working. He was on unpaid leave for a few months whilst he waited for workers compensation to come through.
  • They relied heavily on Sharen’s income to get by. She was using credit cards and payday loans to help cover their everyday expenses whilst also falling behind on utility bills.
  • She took a new job and moved from regional VIC to Melbourne city. The job was paying more and provided her a company car that would improve their financial position. After 2 weeks into the new job she had to resign due to a hostile work environment.
  • She found herself out of work and they were both living off Darrens workers compensation payments. They had incurred further debt in the move to Melbourne
  • She has been in and out of various casual jobs over the past 6 months struggling to find anything reliable.
  • Darren’s knee finally healed to a point where he could return to work and his income increased, however, now Sharen was not earning much of an income.
  • She started a cleaning business to help get money through. They are now financially worse off than they ever where and the stress of the last 12 months has severely impacted her mental health
